Music Review: Jose James-Love in a Time of Madness

Image

All of the songs on Love in a Time of Madness are sonically interesting.  I love the way that James blends so many different genres.  Lyrically he runs the gamut of love lost, love gained, introspection, all the tenants necessary for a good soul album.

Where I found him lacking was in vocal ability.  He’s a good singer, just not a great singer.  I would have loved to hear this entire album sung by someone else.  It wasn’t until listening to “Let It Fall” which features Mali Music, that I smiled with delight at the sound of another artist’s voice.

With that said, I would still recommend listening to this album if you’re a fan of jazz, funk, R&B, or any of the five other genres he manages to tackle in Time In…

Score: 3.5 out of 5

Must Listens: “Remember Our Love,” “Let It Fall” & “Last Night”
