BHM Day 16: Bass Reeves

Bass Reeves, a black cowboy, is believed to be the inspiration for the “Lone Ranger” character.

Bass was born a slave but escaped West during the Civil War.  She lived in Indian Territory and eventually became a Deputy U.S. Marshal.  He was known as an expert marksman and master of disguise. These skills, along with help from his Native American companion and silver horse helped him capture fugitives throughout the west.
