Mariah Thinks She Was Sabotaged
Mariah Carey’s dismal New Year’s Eve performance (seen above) was a real shit show. She barely lip-synced over two tracks while she lazily walked around the stage. Many believed she was drunk, high, or just didn’t give a damn. But Mariah says she was sabotaged.
Her manager Stella Bulochnikov said, “I will never know the truth, but I do know that we told them three times that her mic pack was not working and it was a disastrous production. I’m certainly not calling the FBI to investigate. It is what it is: New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Mariah did them a favor. She was the biggest star there and they did not have their s–t together.”
“They acknowledged that they knew her inner ears were not working. They did not cut to a commercial. They did not cut to the West Coast feed, they left her out there to get ratings.”
Dick Clark productions responded with the below statement:
“As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists. To suggest that dcp, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd. In very rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television, however, an initial investigation has indicated that dcp had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance. We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.” Source
Mariah Mortified Over Performance
Initially Mariah said “Sh*t happens” in response to her performance on New Year’s Eve. But now she’s saying a little more and sounding more humble.
She said, “All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business. I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.” Source
Mariah Fires Her Creative Director
Mimi has decided to make some major changes to her team, starting with her creative director, Anthony Burrell.
A source said, “He’s not being brought back [in 2017] for a number of reasons.”
One of those reasons is that Anthony reportedly moved some of the backup singers off the stage for the NYE performance to make room for more dancers. As a result that “left Mariah without any support.” Source
Tommy Mottola Weighs In
Mariah Carey’s ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, has decided to share his two cents on what went down on NYE.
He said, “MC is arguably the greatest pop voice to come along in the last three decades. She has had more number one hits than any pop artist in history!!! She is a global icon and a treasure with incredible talent not only as a singer but as a great songwriter. What happened on NYE could’ve happened to anyone! Yes, her technical people should’ve helped pay more attention to all of it so that there was no chance of that happening.
“My only advice is that she should hire more seasoned and respected professionals to surround her and help her with her career! I would never have encouraged her or guided her to do something like a reality television show!!!!! I don’t get it!! That does absolutely nothing for her integrity, her credibility, or her massive talent!! She should take a step back, think carefully and figure out what to do next. That is what she does best.. most certainly none of these issues or problems ever existed with her in her early days at Sony for the first 10 years when she skyrocketed to global superstardom!!
“Where absolutely meticulous and methodical attention was paid to every single detail and nuance that went on into her career! It could have happened to anyone and it has, so everyone should just get off her back and leave her the hell alone and hopefully she will find her way to the right professionals for guidance. It’s never about the fall, it’s all about the recovery.”
Mariah’s manager didn’t like any of what he had to say and fired back with, “Really? Tommy is a relic. Did he give you that statement from a rotary phone?” Source
I watched the performance. And while it did appear that something went wrong early on, Mariah just gave up. What happened to ‘the show must go on?’ She’s mortified and she should be.
