28 Days of Black History: Day 1

Black people have made strides in every arena and industry.  In February we like to celebrate our ‘firsts.’ For Day 1 we’re celebrating the firsts black women to prove that men thing ALL women are sexy.

Jennifer Jackson was the first African-American to appear in Playboy magazine.  As part of my wedding present to my husband I got him a smoking jacket, monogrammed whisky decanter and the Playboy magazine that featured Jennifer Jackson.

Jean Bell was the first African-American to appear on the cover (with four other models) (1970).  Jean also had a successful acting career.  She appeared in Playboy several times, the last time in the 1979 pictorial “Playmates Forever.”

Darine Stern was the first African-American to appear on the cover alone (1971).  Darine went on to become a highly coveted model and was represented by Ford Models, Nina Blanchard, Ellen Hart and Shirley Hamilton of Chicago.  Her famous cover has been played tribute by the likes of Marge Simpson.

Renee Tenison was the first black Playboy Playmate of the Year (1990). Renee is also a model and a successful television actress.
