On Monday, October 29th, while Hurricane Sandy was wrecking havoc on the East Coast, most of us were safe and sound inside our homes.  But the Laino family was experiencing something much more tragic.  Anthony Laino had gone to take a nap upstairs in the family home and around 7pm. The winds were at 80mph causing a tree to uproot and land on the Laino house, killing Tony and destroying the Kissena Park home. Source

Since this tragedy, the family has been displaced, as so many are in the wake of Sandy.  And a fund has been set up in Tony’s name to help the Laino family rebuild following this horrible event.

I know the family appreciates all of the love, well wishes, prayers and support flowing in from all over.  And I pledge all of you to give what you can to help at least one family try to put the pieces back together.  You can donate by clicking HERE.  Every little bit helps.

Rihanna is doing some good for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  The singer donated $1,000 sleeping bags to the Daily News’ Hurricane Sandy relief effort.  He also turned Friday’s release party for her next album into a rally to collect more material for the needy.

To attend the free event at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan, you needed only bring something to help the victims.

The part was from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the 6 W. 25th St. club. Source

So nice to see her doing something other than trying to bully KT on Twitter.

More Details…

Yesterday, a hardcore rumble was felt on the east coast.  An 5.9 earthquake rocked the north east, with it’s epicenter in Mineral, VA.

The quake was felt as far south as South Carolina and as far north as Canada.  D.C’s monuments and government buildings were evacuated as were some of NYC’s high rises and city hall.

It doesn’t appear that any major damage was done with the exception of a crack in the Washington monument, a spire fell from the National Cathedral and there was looting of homes and businesses in Virginia near the epicenter. Source

Overall, it doesn’t appear that there was major damage anywhere.  I was in my apartment in Jersey when the quake hit and although our furniture swayed and shook it wasn’t serious enough for us to think that an earthquake occurred.  For now I suppose, us on the east coast can forget about the earthquake and just prepare for Hurricane Irene set to hit on Saturday.
