Tonight I was privileged to to be on the Top of The Garden to cover the S. Whittaker’s “Time Signature” art presentation, in which artist Stephanie Whittaker displayed her latest collection of art which featured the use of 3D.
Guests donned 3D glasses to see her paintings literally come to life. Amaze. But with or without the glasses, the artwork was beautiful.

Rihanna recently purchased a crystal encrusted portrait of Marilyn Monroe for $160K. She commissioned the art from Claire Milner and it took the artist around 4 months to complete the 182 pound portrait.
Clair said of her art piece, “A 100% Swarovski crystal portrait is very luxurious — people stand and stare because it constantly changes color, sending rainbows round the room.
“I tried to show the glitter of the public life and then the sadness in Marilyn’s eyes.
“Because of who Rihanna is, everything had to be done through her interior decorators. But they told me afterward that she loved it.” Source
OK! We get it! You’re rich! Enough already! (Lo sighs and stomps away to go heat up some ramen noodles and munch on crackers she stole from the deli.)

ESPN magazine just released it’s ‘Body Issue’ and inside it has several athletes wearing nothing but a smile. Peep the pics below:
Blake Griffin

Hope Solo, US Soccer Player
Sylvia Fowler, Chicago Sky
Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams

Jose Reyes, NY Mets

Jon Bone Jones, UFC Lightweight Champ

Natasha Hastings, US Olympic Gold Medalist
There’s more but I didn’t have the time or patience to print screen and edit the rest of the pics. You can see the rest here.

Now this is true art. I say this in all seriousness. Their bodies look so incredibly beautiful. And the shoots were done with dignity and class.

Daniel O’Brien, a talented artist and a friend, contacted me a while to discuss an idea he had about educating through art.
Daniel developed “Transplanted: The West Indian Project” as a means to teach the community at large about West Indian culture through a series of art exhibits displaying art focused on particular areas of West Indian history and traditions.
The first show in this exciting series will have its opening night TONIGHT, May 6th, at Space on White. And I am extremely excited to be able to share it with all of you.
The presentation of this art will bring together local underground artists were chosen to tackle West Indian/Caribbean themes.
Each season artists will be called upon to create new pieces geared towards a certain theme. That theme will then be given its own West Indian twist. The Ultimate goal would be to have the pieces exhibited in local galleries or other appropriate venues.
So clear your schedules for tonight take some time to get acquainted with the artists participating in this installment of the project.

This past Friday, April 29th, the Russell Aldo Murray Gallery celebrated its first anniversary with an art show featuring the work of Isaam Houston, Alicia Piller and Justice Whitaker. RAM Gallery events are always live and this one was no different. The liquor was flowing, the beats were live (thanks to DJ Lorant) and the people, as always, were fab. Peep below for photos (some of which I snagged from AllEyesOnWho.com) from the fab event.

Last night the Russell Aldo Murray Gallery hosted ‘Art On Bricks’ featuring artist Ron J. Upperman.
The house was packed with Brick City’s It Girls, It Boys and elite fashionistas . I was privileged to be in attendance to enjoy the art, fellowship, and most importantly, the wine. (just kidding…sorta)
You can learn more about Ron J. Upperman, graffiti write turned fine artist on his Facebook Page, Vimeo and Official Website.
In the meantime enjoy the pics!

Tuesdasy night I attended the Rising Icons art show featuring art by Amanda Diva and designs by Laureluxe. This is one of the best events I’ve been to lately. What the ladies did was collaborate to rep each other’s art. LaureLuxe designs and Amanda Diva’s art pieces (which included oil on canvas, oil on fabric, paintings, 3-dimentional pieces, bags and prints) were complementary of each other.
The event was sponsored by Grey Goose (Praise Jah!) and featured two signature drinks the Diva-whatchamacallit and the Icon-Howzeedoo…sorry I had a more than a few and my focus betrays me after just one drink.
The venue, the meat packing district’s RDV, was filled with my favorite kinda folks, hipsters, fashionistas and dirty back packers. I live and die for this crowd. The ladies of the hour, Amanda Diva and Laurel Mae of LaurelLuxe mixed and mingled with us regular folk. Oh, and when I say ‘us’ I mean me…I was the only regular folk there. Everyone else was a fantastic combo of lush and luxe with a little Benji Ninja and some Erikah Badu mixed in.
Celebs were in the building but the only one I was obsessed with was Derek J…yes the Derek J, the epitome of fabulosity. Just when I was going to jump him for a picture (and the kickass bag he was carrying), he ran outside to take a call and I didn’t see him for the rest of my stay. I’m still mad at myself for not stalking earlier.
So let’s focus here. The art was THE MOST. The designs were OUT OF CONTROL. I loved everything I saw and wanted to own all of it. But since it’s a recession (and even if it wasn’t I’m still poor), I had to fall back. Please note that for my birthday I WILL be purchasing some earrings from Laurel and an art piece from AD.
(The ladies admiring their work…)
I had to dip earlier than expected. But TRUST and believe I’ll be Twit-stalking Amanda and Laurel from here on out.
To find out more about these ladies or to support their art visit…

Russell Simmons is pissed because he had a party at his home and realized that one of his art pieces had been distroyed by a guest who mistook it for a chalkboard.
The piece of art was a chalk drawing by artist Gary Simmons and one of his guests erased part of it. As a result Russell has installed ropes around his art collection to prevent this from happening again.
He hopes to have the artist restore the chalk drawing. Source
He needs to be crackin’ skulls. Damn, can’t have NOTHIN’!
