Movie Premieres: Avatar (Re-Release)

We enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. But despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart. He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth’s energy crisis. Because the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human “drivers” have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora… the Na’vi.
Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan, and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures. As Jake’s relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.
Movie Premieres: Takers

A notorious group of criminals continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective who is hell-bent on solving the case.
Movie Premieres: The Last Exorcism

When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, the Reverend Cotton Marcus expects to perform just another routine “exorcism” on a disturbed religious fanatic. An earnest fundamentalist, Sweetzer has contacted the charismatic preacher as a last resort, certain his teenage daughter Nell is possessed by a demon who must be exorcized before their terrifying ordeal ends in unimaginable tragedy. Buckling under the weight of his conscience after years of parting desperate believers with their money, Cotton and his crew plan to film a confessionary documentary of this, his last exorcism. But upon arriving at the already blood drenched family farm, it is soon clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there. Now, too late to turn back, Reverend Marcus’ own beliefs are shaken to the core when he and his crew must find a way to save Nell – and themselves – before it is too late.
Movie Premieres: Going the Distance

Erin’s wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett’s friends, Box and Dan, joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don’t like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin’s high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine, wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.
Movie Premieres: Piranha 3D

Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there’s something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.

Movie Premiere:
Eat Pray Love

Liz Gilbert had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having –
a husband, a house, a successful career — yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.
The Expendables

A group of mercenaries is hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren’t quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge — one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers. Barney Ross is a man with nothing to lose. Fearless and void of emotion, he is the leader, the sage and the strategist of this tight-knit band of men who live on the fringe. His only attachment is to his pickup truck, his seaplane and his team of loyal modern-day warriors. His is a true cynic who describes what he does as ¿removing those hard to get at stains.¿ The team behind him is made up of Lee Christmas, former SAS and a savant with anything that has a blade; Yin Yang, a master at close-quarter combat; Hale Caesar, who has known Barney for ten years and is a long-barrel weapons specialist; Toll Road, a skilled demolitions expert and considered the intellect of the group; and Gunnar Jensen, a combat veteran and an expert in precision sniping who struggles with his own demons. When the mysterious Church offers Barney a job no one else would take, Barney and his team embark on what appears to be a routine mission: overthrow General Gaza, the murderous dictator of the small island country of Vilena and end the years of death and destruction inflicted on its people. On a reconnaissance mission to Vilena, Barney and Christmas meet their contact Sandra, a local freedom-fighter with a dark secret. They also come to learn who their true enemy is: rogue ex-CIA operative James Monroe and his henchman Paine. When things go terribly wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave Sandra behind, essentially giving her a death sentence. Haunted by this failure, Barney convinces the team to return to Vilena to rescue the hostage and finish the job he started. And to perhaps save a soul: his own.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass — and now is back in town — to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.
As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past — from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsome identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Tim, is an up-and-coming executive who has just received his first invitation to the “dinner for idiots,” a monthly event hosted by his boss that promises bragging rights to the exec that shows up with the biggest buffoon. Tim’s fiancee, Julie, finds it distasteful and Tim agrees to skip the dinner, until he bumps into Barry–an IRS employee who devotes his spare time to building elaborate taxidermy mouse dioramas–and quickly realizes he’s struck idiot gold. Tim can’t resist, and invites Barry, whose blundering good intentions soon sends Tim’s life into a frenzied downward spiral and a series of misadventures, threatening a major business deal, bringing crazy stalker ex-girlfriend, Darla, back into Tim’s life and driving Julie into the arms of another man.

Kyle Kingson has it all – looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity – and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating “aggressively unattractive” classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is – a task he considers impossible. Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle’s callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper and blind tutor. As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter, Lindy if she will consent to live in Kyle’s Brooklyn home. Thus begins Kyle’s journey to discover true love in this hyper-modern retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast” story.

This past weekend I was privileged enough to cover the YBF Entrepreneur Launch Party, “Dare to Shine.” This event featured Shana Joseph, CEO of Glamorous Chicks Cosmetics, Grace Odogbili, owner and executive chef, with Dining With Grace, Inc. and Fatima Samad, owner and designer with Design By U Jewelry.

Sherene Smikle, the head hancho of YBF, hosted the event which included free manicures, live music, giveaways, and free food and drink!
I felt like I was at a miniature version of the black expo that featured three of my favorite things: glam, accessories, and most of all FOOD!

The first table I tackled was Glamorous Chicks Cosmetics. Here you could purchase makeup, receive a make over or have specialty glam body art added to you.

I was most impressed by the facet that the Glamorous Chicks mineral eye shadow is so much more than just a powder to apply to your lids. It can also be used as blush, eyeliner, lip color, nail polish and mascara.
WHAT?! I Know!
Plus the price will knock your socks off!
I’d tell you more but I want you to check out Shana’s stuff in person. You can visit Glamorous Chicks Cosmetics at the Newport Mall in Jersey City (second level next to Sears), visit their website(www.glamorouschickscosmetics.com), become a fan on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Glamorous-Chicks-Cosmetics/113024962072859) or follow them on Twitter (http://twitter.com/GCCosmetics).

Next I made my way over to the Design By U Jewelry table where owner/designer Fatima Samad had five collections laid out. I wanted a pair of each. I’m in love with the rich color palette and nature inspired shapes.

You can learn more about Fatima and her wonderful brand on her blog (www.designbyujewelry.blogspot.com) and purchase her work over at ETSY (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Movingcypher?ref=seller_info)
Finally, I was standing around enjoying salt cod tostones with avocado crème and caviar and thinking to myself “Gee wasn’t there a third business featured here? I can’ t seem to focus because this morsel I’m stuffing my face with is soo delicious!” Then one of the lovely wait staff came by with more food and handed me one of Grace’s cards.

Oh right! Dining With Grace! I’d been sampling Grace’s fantastic food all night without even realizing it. Grace’s menu consists of food inspired by Africa and the tropics. On the menu Saturday night was:
Curry Wild Mushroom Wontons
Nigerian Chili Sliders

Spicy Tarragon Shrimp Puffs

Jerk Chicken Skewers
Salt Cod Tostones w/ Avocado Crème and Caviar
Mediterranean Bruschetta
Red Velvet Minis with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Frosting
Savory and delish! Lo recommends! …And I’m a foodie, so you can trust me.
You can get in touch with Grace via her blog (www.diningwithgrace.wordpress.com) her website (www.diningwithgrace.com) or find her on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Brooklyn-NY/Dining-With-Grace-Catering-Cafe/137604071441?v=wall) or Twitter (http://twitter.com/DiningWithGrace)
All in all it was a great night. Special thanks to Sherene for inviting me. For all upcoming YBF events, find your way over to their site: http://theybfco.com/
I hope you’ll all go and check out these lovely divas doing their thing. I send out sisterly love from everyone here at the Manifesto Part 2.
Kisses my lovlies!

Inception

Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible — inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Balthazar Blake is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorceror’s Apprentice.

Despicable Me

In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon, yes, the moon. Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays, and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad. The world’s greatest villain has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.
Predators

Royce, a mercenary, reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers — mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members — human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

I told you about Diddy having a 4th of July shindig in Atlantic City. Well the party ended up getting shut down. Security couldln’t handle all the people that shoed up. So the club at Harrah’s was closed and people were prevented from entering or leaving for an hour.
Diddy couldn’t even get in. He tweeted: “The party was so crazy I couldn’t even get in! Ten thousand people showed up. Damn I was ready to party… I just shut down Atlantic City!” Source
Damn shame.

Tonight I had the privilege of covering the the New York Fashion Connect show. The featured designer (this may not be the case but she was the best designer in my opinion) Claudia’s line killed it. (peep my synopsis below).
Some background on Claudia:
-She was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
-She’s studied fashion in Italy as well as right here in the US.
-Her work has been featured in Lucky, OK! and People magazine.
Her style, in my opinion is 100% feminine (well, with a few droplets of rocker mixed in). From the soft, silky fabrics to the bold yet refreshing color palette, wearing one of her pieces is sure to make you feel like a girl, just not the girl next door.
To see more of her collections check out her site http://www.claudiae.com/
Now about this here fashion show…
I’d like to first apologize for the shoddy quality of the pics. I don’t get paid enough for one of those fancy smancy Nikons. But you’ll get the gist. Also, I am no authority on fashion. So everything I’m about to say is strictly my opinion and nothing more. With that said, ON TO THE SHOW!
The show, which featured four other designers besides ClaudiaE and was sponsored by 5 Point Magazine, Blink PR and FIG Media. Hard Candy was the exclusive make up of the night and held at the Chancala Loft in Soho.
When I arrived at the Loft, around 6:20 for the 6:00 media reception, I feared I was too late. After walking up four flights of stairs (the elevator was out of order) I realized I was right on time. 20 minutes too late for Lo…40 minutes too early by industry standards.
I was checked in by Dawn, an adorable girl in shiny tights (I’ve come to love those), I was seated in the front row at the end of the runway. I suppose showing up early does pay off. I checked out the surroundings and pulled out my notebook and started writing. At around 6:52, 8 minutes before show time, the loft was only about a quarter full. Where is everyone? Oh right, industry time, not Lo time. A lovely young gentleman sat beside me, who later turned out to be the Chief Created Officer of 5 Point Mag. My anticipation grew and the minutes flew by. Finally at 7:30 the show began.
#1 Carpe Diem Deformo

Carpe Diem Deformo is a graphic t-shirt design company that, according to their site, find inspiration in the 80′s punk and 90′s hip hop. Now, I’m no fashionista, and the designs were cute.

But when a trend (i.e. graphic tees) becomes so widespread that it can be found at WalMart, that trend has to be turned on its ass and flipped inside out for it to still be interesting and exciting. Unfortunately, I wasn’t particularly impressed. Just my opinion.

#2 Bagstil
(Leipzig, Germany/Los Angeles, CA)

Bagstil is a handbag company who’s design asthetic seems to be a combination of denim or canvas with leather detailing. The bags looked well made and sturdy. They’re not my tasted but they seemed nice nonetheless.

#3 Jinxaposed
(Austin, TX)
Now this line was something else. It started off pretty good. There was swim wear and these cute little jumpers that put me in the mind of something Miss Hanigan would wear in her boudoir in ‘Annie.’ I love the roaring 20s.

Then it got a little, er, interesting. The core of each design was pretty good, but there were these embellishments added that I personally just didn’t get.

They were ill placed and some of them looked like something bought from an upholstery remnant store.
Once again, this is just my opinion. But the quality just wasn’t there.
#4 ClaudiaE
(Guayaquil, Equador/Miami, FL)

I really enjoyed this line. The designer coupled shiny patterned tights or fishnets and knee-his with soft billowy tops and dresses.

Business on top and party down below. Loves it!

If I were thinner I’d walk around wearing nothing but a silk button up and some stockings. But I’m not. So although its not something I could necessarily pull off (not that I wouldn’t try), I know a lot of you out there could.
#5 Mayhem
Japan

This was another bag line and I thought most of it was cute. As a bag whore, I’d have to inspect the pieces further to cosign on the fully. But for right now I’ll give it a thumbs up.
Overall, I thought the production of the show was very good. I found at least one thing in each collection that I dug, and I can’t wait til my next Fashion Week event. Kisses!
Thanks for the hook up Mini D!
